SUMMARY: This is a story about the ER staff finding love, heartbreak, and discovering feelings they never knew they had.

I never win 1st place
I don't support the team
I can't take direction
And my socks are never clean
Teachers dated me
My parents hated me
I was always in a fight
Cause I can't do nothing right

Everyday I fight a war against the mirror
I can't stand the person staring back at me

I'm a hazard to myself
Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
I don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else.

Elizabeth dropped her headphones on the bed and sighed. She was incredibly upset right now. Her husband had died from a brain tumor, and now she had no idea what to do. She had though about committing suicide. Now she was sitting on the bed with a bottle of painkillers in her hand wondering what to do. The phone rang.

"Hello," she said, trying to keep calm.

"Hey," she heard a male voice say. "How you doing?"

None other than Carter. When Mark died, she leaned toward him for some reason. He seemed to know her better than Mark did. Of course, Elizabeth had never slept with him because she was with Mark, but she had been tempted. Elizabeth had never dreamed about cheating on Mark, however.

"Elizabeth?" said Carter, interrupting her thoughts, "You there?"

"Yes, sorry John. I've been way better, how about you?" Elizabeth came back to reality.

"I've been OK, Romano's been putting me on nights lately. I think I'm being punished for something," Carter said.

"No, Romano just needs someone to fill in for Susan while she's on vacation," said Elizabeth. "She went back to Phoenix to visit her friends, remember?"

"Yes, I remember. I don't know how you can remember though. I mean, you're going through a very traumatic experience right now," Carter said, sounding very concerned for Elizabeth.

"Rachel isn't taking it too well either. I think she's in worse condition than I am," Elizabeth replied.

"I'll be OK," she said, "I promise."

So doctor doctor won't you please prescribe me something
A day in the life of someone else

Cause I'm a hazard to myself
Don't Let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
I don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

Elizabeth hung up the phone and let the painkillers fall to the floor. She didn't know what to do anymore. Even though she had friends, a daughter, and a stepdaughter, she wished for more. She wanted Mark back. Carter was trying to be a good friend, but it was hard, considering she had just lost her husband to an uncontrollable illness. Could she ever make it with Carter?

She would have to wait to find out.

She took five or six painkillers out of the bottle, downed them all at once, and within five minutes, she fell unconcious.
