Author's Note: This is my fifth fan fic, third for ER. This is the Dave and Lucy ending for this story. If you would rather read about Carter and Lucy than go and read that one. This is the last chapter of this story. A sequel will follow this chapter. The sequel is called It wasn't supposed to happen this way. It will follow Dave and Lucy's fake turned real love for eachother and their relationship after the plan. There will also be a sequel to the Carter and Lucy ending called Victorious. It will follow the trials and tribulations of Carter and Lucy's relationship as she is a medical student.

Chapter 3 Recaps: The gang is still at the bar. Carter and Lucy had a quick dance before Dave and Lucy went at it again. Carter felt sick from watching Lucy, he went to the washroom. He came back and danced with Roxanne. She asked for a drink and he went. When he came back she was leaving with another woman. Carter sat down and the entire table laughed at him.

CHAPTER FOUR:

Carter looked around at everyone laughing at him. He got up and stormed out of the club. Deb excused herself and ran after him. She caught up to him. "John wait. They weren't laughing at you. We were laughing at Roxanne because she dumped such a wonderful guy." "Nice try Deb, I don't care that you guys were laughing at me I care because Lucy really likes Dave. You know I thought that she would run after me, but she didn't. I thought her and Dave were just joking. I really like her you know." "I know. But it's kinda you're fault. Lucy was interested in you and you pushed her away and insulted her. You constantly treated her like shit and never acted like her friend. She went through some really hard stuff and you acted like you didn't give a care. Obviously you do, but I think you're too late. You lost your chance. You assumed that she would wait for you, you took her for granted. It's your own fault that she doesn't want to waste her time with you anymore." "Thanks Deb, I really needed that. I'm outta here." "Fine go. You just don't like hearing how you really are to people. I know you and you're too stubborn to realize that if you take things for granted, they'll slip away and they'll be gone forever." She spun on her heal and walked back into the club.

MEANWHILE IN THE CLUB, AT THE TABLE:

Dave took Lucy's hand and asked her if she wanted him to take her home. She nodded and they got up and left. In the car Dave said that he had fun and they should keep up the plan. Lucy agreed. When they got to her dorm. Dave walked her up. "Night Luce. I had a really good time." "So did I Dave." Dave turned to leave, but Lucy grabbed his arm spun him around put her hands on each of his cheeks and kissed him. She slid her hands around his neck and pulled him closer. He slid his arms around her waist and kissed her back. They finished, Dave turned and left. Lucy closed and locked her door and took off her coat. "Wow, I don't know why I did that, but I'm sure as hell glad I did." She put her pj's on and got into bed. As she was dozing off the phone rang. She picked it up.

PHONE CONVERSATION:

Lucy: Hello

Carter: Hey Luce

Lucy: Dr. Carter?

Carter: Yeah, and it's John.

Lucy: What can I do for you Dr. Carter?

Carter: John, and I just wanted to apoligize

L: For what?

C: Everything

L: Excuse me?

C: For anything that I've ever done to you that's been mean or horrible or all of the above

L: I forgive you Dr. Carter

C: Lucy, for the last time it's John. You don't have to call me Dr. Carter now, there's no one listening to us.

Lucy smirked and continued.

L: Actually there is...so I should.

C: Oh, who's there?

L: Well not that it's any of your business, but Dave is over.

C: Oh...well I'll let you get back to him. I'm sorry for bothering you.

L: That's okay Dr. Carter. I'll see you tomorrow.

C: Yeah bye Lucy.

Lucy hung up, laughed and pulled up the covers.

THE NEXT MORNING, THE EL:

Lucy was waiting for the El to make her stop. When she got off she walked down the stairs towards Dr. Magoos. She needed some coffee. She walked in, and ordered some coffee. She recalled the conversation she had last night with Carter. She couldn't believe how easy it was to lie to him about Dave. She couldn't figure out why. "Boo" She turned around to see her friend Joline. "Jo, what are you doing here?" "Well, I went to the ER and they said that you usually come over here before your shifts so here I am." "Some things never change huh?" "Nope, woah that was a strong one." "Are you okay?" Just than Joline buckled over in pain and hit her head on the corner of the table "JOLINE!" Lucy yelled for the waitress to call County General and tell them to get a gurney over here. Lucy bent over and checked Joline's pulse. She had one. But she also had a large laceration to the left side of her head. Lucy ripped off her sleeve and covered the cut to stop the blood flow. She suddenly felt something wet seep through her pant leg. She looked down to see that Joline's water just broke. She heard the bells over the door jingle, turned and saw that Malik, Abby and Carter had just run in with a gurney. "Lucy, give me the bullet." "25 year old female. 7 months pregnant with triplets. Was discharged yesterday with preclampsia with edema. Laceration on left side of head. Pulse is thready and water broke about three minutes ago." "Okay people lets get her over to the ER. Luce take it way." "Okay when we get their get three baby warmers, a portable ultra sound. Three fetal heart monitors and get Dr. Finch. Shit, I lost a pulse. Abby intubate. Get Dr. Benton in here now." "Great job Luce." Dr. Benton and Dr. Finch ran in. "What do we got people." "25 year old female, 7 months pregnant with triplets. Intubated, water broke about 6 mins ago. Laceration to the left side of head. Was diagnosed yesterday with preclampsia with edema. She's gonna need an emergency C-section. What are the FHT Malik. Someone call Coburn." "Strong and consistent." "Lucy I think that you step out while they work on her." "Dr. Carter, I wanna help. She's like a sister to me." "That's exactly my point Luce. Come on, lets go get some coffee." "Fine...But I don't wanna go to far. Dr. Carter she's one of my best friends. I don't know what I would do if I lost her." "It's okay Lucy. It's gonna be okay." Carter pulled Lucy into his arms for a hug. They were interrupted by Dave yelling down the hall. "Lucy are you okay?" "Oh Dave." Lucy wrapped her arms around Dave's neck and cried. She explained what happened. He told her that everything would be okay. Than he kissed her. Malik came out of the trauma room, to tell them that she delivered fine, a c-section hadn't been needed because Joline woke up from the contractions. Both the girls and boy were fine. Dave looked at her and they kissed.
